Asturias – Fito viewpoint

This viewpoint is the most famous and one of the most visited in Asturias. It gives you a 360 degree breathtaking, panoramic view of the surrounding area. You can see the coastline of Asturias on one side and Cantabria on the other, the valleys in front of the mountains and of course the high peaks of the Picos de Europa.

The viewpoint itself is a horrible cement and concrete structure. Only a few people can get up to it at one time so you might have to wait your turn. It was built so that you can thoroughly enjoy the view without the trees obstructing it. Up on the top of the viewpoint there are explanations about what you are looking at naming all the areas and mountain peaks.

We got to this viewpoint from the town of Arriondas on the A8 then followed the signs to ‘Mirador de Fito’, towards Colunga. After many thrilling curves and a steady rise of 11 kilometres you will arrive to the car park by the viewpoint.

Note: for obvious reasons it’s only worth going when the sky is clear and you can see far.
